Step

Premise
After creating a device that can see into the future, a scientist is framed for murder and hunted by the company she built it for. In a race against time, she attempts to evade capture while trying to prevent a future where she appears to trigger the apocalypse.

Writer’s Statement
The story of STEP focuses on Nikki, an abrasive but brilliant scientist and grieving mother. She is shut off from her own emotions, buried in her work and avoids any possibility of dealing with her psychological trauma. The emotional hook of the story is that she has discovered the ability to see forward into the future but all she wants to do is go back into her past. Furthermore, she is reluctantly set on a path where she has to choose to save the world when the grief inside her makes her just want to see it burn.

Conversations around mental health and well-being are finally becoming less of a taboo. We are suddenly seeing ourselves in the lives of others on-screen and are connecting more deeply than ever with their emotional arcs. Mixing a very human drama with fringe science fiction provides an anchor of shared experience in a very unorthodox environment. Making STEP supremely relatable, ultimately watchable and always unexpected.
